“Leave the libraries alone…”

Last month, best-selling British author Philip Pullman gave an impassioned speech decrying the plan of the municipal budget-cutters to close a swath of public libraries in Oxfordshire. Pullman’s scathing critique of the widespread attempt to turn over the reins of cultural institutions to profit-seeking entrepreneurs has gotten a lot of play on the Internet. False Economy posted the  text of the speech.
