The Lost Art of Reading Aloud

“….I know of a woman who read Paradise Lost…aloud to her husband in a single winter, while he was shaving, that being the only available time.” – Charles F. Richardson (The Choice of Books, 1885)

We hope that most people who read aloud to each other nowadays are doing so in more comfortable settings – although our guess is that there aren’t many people who still read aloud to each other under any circumstances.

Recently, the New York Times posted an essay on this once-common practice; read it here.
