Bookish Quotation du Jour

April 14, 2012

From the keyboard of Canada-based bookblogger “Cipriano“:

God grant me the serenity to accept that I can’t read all the books.
The courage to read the ones I can.
And the wisdom to quit buying more.

To Participate in a Social Network for Readers, or Not? This is a Question…

August 27, 2010

Are you an avid reader who’s joined, or considered joining – or at least heard about – LibraryThing, GoodReads, Shelfari, or one of the many other Internet-based websites where readers share their reading lists and recommendations?

If so, you might find interesting – and you will certainly find amusing – Minneapolis-baed blogger Dylan Hicks’ reflections on his love/hate relationship with GoodReads. His screed is entitled Bats in the Bookshelves: The Perils of Literary Social Networking.

For hyperlinks to over two dozen Internet-based social networks for readers, see the heading Social Networks in the Atlanta Booklover’s Blog’s Booklover’s Toolbox.

Bookish Humor: “Better Book Titles”

August 26, 2010

Comedian Dan Wilbur takes the art of writing plot summaries to a new level: he’s dreamed up some sarcastic alternative titles to Classics and Bestsellers You Meant to Read But Somehow Never Did. (Actually, you probably did read some of these books – but wondered later Why You Bothered.)

Wilbur’s send-up of the herd aspect of popular reading tastes and over-the-top book publicity is called  Better Book Titles.
